Role of genetics
Genetics play a significant role in determining an individual's muscle growth potential. The genes we inherit from our parents determine factors such as muscle fiber type, muscle size, and response to training stimuli. Some people have a higher percentage of fast-twitch muscle fibers, which are associated with explosive power and strength.
Others may have more slow-twitch muscle fibers, which are associated with endurance activities. While both fiber types can grow in response to training, individuals with a higher percentage of fast-twitch fibers tend to have greater potential for muscle hypertrophy. Other genetic factors that can affect muscle growth include hormone levels, such as testosterone and growth hormone, and genetic variations in muscle protein synthesis and breakdown.
Although genetics certainly play a significant role in muscle growth potential, it is important to remember that environmental factors such as nutrition, rest, and training regimen also play a crucial role in determining muscle growth.
